VP Operations, Palladium Insurance Financial

What is so rewarding about working in insurance? According to Mavis Wenman-Sholdice, it’s about making a positive impact on peoples’ lives — both financially and in terms of access to health care.

“I like knowing that we play an integral part in our client’s financial well-being and peace of mind, and especially when we can assist them during a health crisis or challenging life event,” she says. “Providing exceptional service has always been a personal priority for me.”

Mavis started her insurance career in 1988, and spent 22 years in various roles at one of the largest health insurance carriers in Canada, Great-West Life (now Canada Life).

She earned her licence in 2010 after signing on with Palladium Insurance. Her expertise lies primarily in life insurance, living benefits, group benefits and special risk products.

“Over the years, my experience has given me very well-rounded knowledge. These days, however, my focus is more on day-to-day operations and management.”

What’s her most important advice for us? “Buy insurance when you are young and healthy. Far too many people put it off until it’s too late or they are no longer medically insurable.”

When it comes to working at Palladium, she loves that the culture is open and friendly, and feels like family.

“Sylvie and Tim go above and beyond to make it a fun and exciting place to be and to work,” she says.

Mavis was born in Ontario’s Niagara region, moved to Northern Ontario in her teens, then settled in Ottawa after graduating from college. She has an appreciation for small-town living and the sense of community, but also enjoys all the convenience that city life offers.
